UNCOVERING ANCIENT HISTORY
KENCHREAI, GREECE
Support groundbreaking underwater archaeology—help reveal lost Roman shipwrecks, ancient harbor works, and secrets of a historic crossroads. Experience science at sea, participate in AUV, ROV and SCUBA exploration, and bring ancient history alive.
Kenchreai, a bustling port on Greece’s Isthmus of Corinth, was a critical gateway where merchants, travelers, and ideas converged across the Roman world. Its vast artificial harbor—an engineering marvel of antiquity—welcomed ships for centuries, while its diverse community of pagans and Christians flourished in a pluralistic society. But today, much of this cultural landscape lies submerged, concealed by tectonic shifts and coastal erosion.
