Project Seagrass is a marine conservation organisation securing a future for seagrass. Seagrass meadows are one of the most widespread coastal habitats on the planet and provide a range of benefits for people and planet. They are havens of biodiversity, capture carbon, filter nutrients, and help to stabilise our coastlines. Globally, seagrass is under threat and continues to experience rapid loss. We must act now to reverse this trend.
Project Seagrass work collaboratively to secure a future for seagrass ecosystems. Yachts for Science previously supported the WWF funded Seagrass Ocean Rescue: Solent project which laid the foundations for long-term seagrass restoration and conservation across the Solent and Isle of Wight, acting as a catalyst for habitat recovery, protection, and increased investment. Project Seagrass is currently working to restore 3.5 hectares of seagrass as part of the multi-partner Solent Seascape Project, the first seascape scale recovery restoration project of its kind in the UK, and 3 hectares of seagrass as part of a programme of work funded by Scottish and Southern Electrical network. A commercially coded workboat or research vessel (Coding Certificate and Certificate of Insurance) is needed to support planting survey, and SCUBA operations as part of these efforts.
